Join eXXpedition in the Azores!

The Azores are a group of nine islands, which are volcanic in origin and a famed north-east Atlantic deep-sea coral hotspot making them an important place to explore the prevalence and impact of ocean plastics. While in the Azores the crew will collaborate with the Azores Government, the Expolab Science Center, environmental groups and the local community to take part in research projects and to share their story and raise awareness of the plastic pollution issue and solutions.

21st October 1600 – 1800 Public Evening Talk & Lab Visit at Expolab the Center of Living Sciences
Mission Director, Emily Penn and the crew of multidisciplinary women share stories of science at sea, sailing and solutions to the plastic issue. The event is open to the public and will start with talks in the main auditorium, followed by an interactive session within the laboratory where people can look into microscopes to see the microplastics that often go unseen, along with other plastic samples we’ve collected during our scientific research. A free event but RSVP needed.

27 October 2019 – 14:00 – 15:00 Public Outreach event with the Azores Government at Parque Atlantico Supermarket R. da Juventude, 9500-211 Ponta Delgada, Portugal.
Informative talks and Q&A exploring alternatives to plastic consumption and other habits and sustainable ways of living. The Azores Government has actively been working on reducing single use plastic, including the campaign that launched last year around “Azores without Straws”.
A free event for anyone that wants to attend.
